CERTIFICATE COURSE IN MARITIME CATERING  (Saloon Rating Course)

Preamble

 

Catering and Housekeeping section on the ship has the sole responsibility to create a home away from home for the personnel to ensure optimum performance. On completion of Certificate Course in Maritime Catering, the trainee would be able to fulfil his/her part of this responsibility on board. Trainees must have the opportunity to practice Catering and Housekeeping tasks independently and develop such skill which would provide them job opportunities ashore after a few years of sea service. The training standards should be such as to allow career development opportunities towards Diploma and eventually a Degree programme for candidates desiring to progress in the field.

 

Aim

 

This course is aimed at training the prospective seafarer in culinary arts which would enable the trainee to serve onboard ships as an assistant to the Ship’s Cook, and House Keeping and Food & Beverage Service.

 

Objective

 

A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to:

a) Prepare commonly served Indian, and international dishes independently.

b) Apply the concepts of Nutrition, health and Hygiene together with budgetary and costing aspects of catering operations.

c) Undertake food and beverage service operations

d) Attend to the cabin cleaning and other associated work of Housekeeping

e) Maintain highest standards of safe working practices, protection of environment, security of the ship and personnel on board.

f) Assist in other ship board duties of mooring the vessel and emergencies on board.

g) Perform duties with diligence and care of all persons on board.

 

Scope

 

The training program is a Six months Pre-Sea Training Program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The training comprises of theoretical and Practical study of Food Production, Food & Beverage Service, House-keeping and Maritime Familiarization which gives the successful trainees an opportunity to join the merchant shipping in the Hospitality Department.

 

Minimum Entry Requirement :

 

Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 12th Standard (Commerce, Arts or Science) from a recognized Board and with minimum 40% marks in English language in 10th or 12th.

Or

Pass in 2-Year I.T.I. course from Govt. Approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% marks in English at 10th or Diploma Exam.

 

Age Limit:       17½ - 25 Years

(The candidate aspiring to join this course should be within the above age limit on the date of course commencement.)

 

Medical and Eye Sight Requirements:

 

Medical and Eye Sight requirements shall be as per the existing standards of DG Shipping. 6/6 un-aided Vision with no colour blindness. No speech impairment (disorder).

Every trainee will have to undergo and produce a Medical Fitness certificate issued by DG Shipping approved Doctor. The List of approved Doctors and medical centres can be downloaded from www.dgshipping.gov.in

 

Admission Procedure:

 

All admissions for CCMC course are done by the Academy. All aspiring candidates meeting the above mentioned admission criteria can contact the Academy along with their educational qualification documents and register for the course.

 

Course Strength:
 

The approved course capacity of this Academy is 40 Candidates Per Batch and (80 Candidates annually). This course is conducted twice a year with batches commencing January and July each year.

Note: It is suggested that candidates visit the Academy in person to register for the course.

Structure of Examinations:


This Academy conducts internal examinations during the course of training to gauge the progress of its trainees. The structure of  Final Examination are as mentioned below. The final examinations are conducted through The All India Exit Examination for CCMC which is conducted in Three parts comprising of Online, Oral, and Practical which is conducted by Board of Examination for Seafarers Trust, Navi Mumbai. The Trainee has to secure minimum 60% in each of the parts to Qualify.

Course Ware and Teaching Material:
 

CAAMN shall provide course ware and teaching material for the training. All trainees are provided an additional stationery kit.

 

Issue of Certificates:


All trainees will be provided the following certificates at the completion of course and successfully passing the All India Exit Examination;

 

Duties of a Saloon Rating on a Ship:

 

Saloon Ratings are trained in Food Production, Food & Beverage Service, House-keeping services. They can be employed in either Main Fleet of the Merchant Navy or Cruise Shipping. Saloon Ratings work on the ship involves carrying out all operations in hospitality management.

Course Fee:


The cost of six months CCMC Course is Rs.200,000/- (Rupees Two Lakh Only). The fee is subject to change at the discretion of the management and fee paid is not refundable under any circumstances.

 

The Fee break-up is as follows:

 

Registration Fee - Rs.40,000/- (Rupees Forty Thousand Only) to be paid for seat confirmation.

 

Balance Course Fee - Rs.160,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Sixty Thousand Only) to be paid at the time of reporting for joining the Course. The date of joining (reporting) is 4 Days prior to date of course commencement. Kindly note that we do not offer any instalment Facility. Complete fee is to be cleared at the time of reporting.
